Where is Takasaki
Takasaki is a city located 100km northwest of Tokyo – just one-hour away by the Shinkansen bullet train, with a population of over 370,000.
Rich in lush nature and places of mystical energy, Takasaki city is home to popular places of interest such as the White-Robed Goddess of Mercy statue, Haruna Shine, and Lake Haruna, serving leisure activities to visitors year round!
It is also fondly known as the city of Daruma dolls – a symbol of good luck in Japan. These dolls are hand painted with auspicious symbols of longevity, cranes (eyebrows) and turtles (mustache). It is customary to first colour in its right eye with black ink, then fill out its other eye once a year has passed without incident or when your wish has been fulfilled, to show your appreciation by “opening” both its eyes.
